As a group of avid readers in the LRP team we are very happy to have recently expanded our book offering online and in the showroom. We knew you would be interested in finding out more about some of the wonderful authors and illustrators who have created the ones we've selected. All books have a Hong Kong theme whether it be written or illustrated by someone who lives here or is about the city, the stories and the history of the place so many of us call home.
This time we meet artist Ryan Hummer who created the lovely Hong Kong Colouring Book we are now selling!
About you
Ryan has been teaching at an International School in Hong Kong since 2005. He has deep love and appreciation for his wife and daughter, who are the true treasures of his life. Beyond the classroom, Ryan is a fervent local artist, indulging in painting, drawing, and even honing his skills in wood puppet carving during a transformative trip to Prague. Initially arriving in Hong Kong with the expectation of staying for a mere year, Ryan was captivated by the region's breathtaking natural beauty, hiking trails, picturesque beaches, and the vibrant tapestry of local culture. His heart forever entwined with this enchanting city, Ryan has discovered a profound sense of belonging that continues to inspire his artistic pursuits and enrich his life's journey.
Your Inspiration
Ryan, a passionate advocate for diverting kids' attention from the clutches of iPads, and amidst the tumultuous times of protests and the relentless grip of COVID, Ryan sought to celebrate the incredible aspects of this vibrant city. His colouring book was created for both kids and adults alike. With his daughter by his side, scribbling away with artistic fervor, they embarked on a journey of creativity, accompanied by the timeless melodies of Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra. Ryan's endeavour celebrated Hong Kong's wonders, natural beauty, and the aspects of Hong Kong that genuinely make it a unique city.
Favourite thing to do or see in Hong Kong
Ryan has found his favourite activities in Hong Kong to be hiking to Jardines Lookout with his wife and daughter, followed by a stroll down to Repulse Bay for mouthwatering Thai food and beachside relaxation. But the simple pleasures truly make Hong Kong feel like home to Ryan. From the iconic Star Ferry rides to exploring the vibrant Flower Market and hopping on trams with no particular destination, he finds joy in the city's unassuming beauty and serendipitous moments. These little experiences create lasting memories and a deep sense of belonging in this incredible place for Ryan.
