For the past six years, I’ve been fortunate to call Hong Kong home, after spending several decades living abroad. Born in England and raised in Australia, I’ve always had a sense of wanderlust. My journey with this vibrant city began in my twenties, and it was during those early visits that I made the life-changing decision for my family to move to Hong Kong. The energy of this place enveloped me—it felt like home!

Now firmly rooted in Hong Kong, I draw inspiration from its dynamic force, rich history, and captivating blend of tradition and modernity. As an artist, I’ve dedicated myself to capturing the essence of the places I’ve lived in or traveled to. When the pandemic confined us, my focus shifted to documenting Stanley, the picturesque village where I then resided.

In my art, I weave together the timeless elements of Hong Kong—its vibrant colours, iconic symbols, and storied past—with a contemporary twist. This fusion culminates in my ongoing series, ‘Circle City Scapes.’ Each piece is a labor of love, requiring around 30 hours of meticulous sketching. I visit the actual sites, photographing them to infuse authenticity into my creations. Occasionally, I allow myself a touch of artistic license to ensure that all the individual elements harmonise seamlessly.

Hong Kong’s diversity never ceases to amaze me. Whether I’m sipping coffee in the heart of the metropolis, surrounded by sleek modern architecture on one side and colonial remnants on the other, or quietly enjoying a secluded beach while savouring local delicacies, there’s always something new to discover. But above all, drawing remains my absolute favourite activity here. I find inspiration in every urban nook and cranny, constantly seeking fresh perspectives to fuel my creativity. I am currently building upon my ‘Circle City Scapes’ creating more drawings of each Hong Kong area, alongside a series of cards and postcards.
