As a group of avid readers in the LRP team we are very happy to have recently expanded our book offering online and in the showroom. We knew you would be interested in finding out more about some of the wonderful authors and illustrators who have created the ones we've selected. All books have a Hong Kong theme whether it be written or illustrated by someone who lives here or is about the city, the stories and the history of the place so many of us call home.
This week we are meeting author Tara Fitzpatrick who wrote the lovely book Adventure Baby in Hong Kong
About
I moved to Hong Kong 8 years ago, at the time I was a performer and I was traveling all over Asia in different productions and events. Although I was traveling a lot, I always loved returning to Hong Kong. I would spend my days off discovering trails, finding new places to eat, visiting the tourist hotspots or exploring different islands by boat - there’s so much to see and do in Hong Kong, that’s why I love it so much.
I created this board book for little hands (aged 0-5 years), but really this book can be enjoyed by anyone who cherishes the beauty, adventure and diversity of Hong Kong. Filled with colourful illustrations and fun rhyming text, it’s perfect for family story time.
Inspiration
The inspiration for my children’s book is definitely my baby girl, Leonie, and my experience as a first-time mum. I’ve spent countless hours reading to her and it’s always felt like such great way to bond together.
Writing and rhyming have always been passions of mine, so I felt inspired to create something special of my own. Adventure Baby in Hong Kong sees a little girl exploring Hong Kong for the first time, discovering the beaches, hikes, islands, markets etc. So it definitely was inspired by all the adventures I hope to share with Leonie as she grows.
Favourite things to see or do in Hong Kong
My favourite place in Hong Kong is our home, Big Wave Bay. I particularly love it on a sunny winters day, sometimes it can be so quiet that we have the whole beach to ourselves. We dip our feet in the beautiful cold water, run/crawl around on the sand, and take a big blanket to sit and eat snacks together - It truly is our happy place. I feel so blessed to have it right on our doorstep, and to be able to share these precious moments with her regularly.
