It was 2014 and I had been selling Hong Kong-themed stationery for almost 2 years.
I wanted to buy some HK-themed Christmas decorations for my tree and I couldn’t find any so I thought maybe I’d make some myself… and see if anyone else wanted some too!
It was a big gamble as I needed to commit to making 500 from the factory.
I went with my gut instinct and created a tram, star ferry, taxi and a green minibus. And guess what?
By the end of that season, I’d sold 10,000!
I was so happy to find out customers loved them too! Now, a decade on, and with more than 50 Christmas decorations in that series created since then, we know that a little piece of Hong Kong sits on a tree at Christmas or maybe hangs from a window in many, many homes in countries around the world.
So, my advice is, go with your gut folks!
